Andromeda is being put in an arranged marriage with an old man by the name of Fineus who rules over the land of Tyre. She is very unhappy about being put in this marriage but will go along with it because her parents said so. Andromeda was being fitted for her wedding dress when her mother came in and started to express how beautiful she was and then got carried away and said that the two of them are more beautiful than Poseidon's daughters. Poseidon heard what she said and he was infuriated and started to destroy the earth with tragedies. For Poseidon to stop these destructive things Andromeda had to chain herself to a boulder to be eaten by the sea monster. Perseus steps in front of Andromeda and slays the monster. Perseus orders for Andromeda’s hand in marriage and Fineus says that she is his. After a political fight with the breakup of the engagement Andromeda marries Perseus and goes on an unbelievable honeymoon.
Why you should read this story:
Personally I enjoyed this book because it was odd how a mothers mistakes fall on her child's life. I think that the book should have had a bigger plot because it was a very quick read. Of course it is a story so it should be short but if it had a longer rising action I feel like that book itself would have had a better reputation if the author took that into consideration. I would recommend this book to anyone who is fond of romance and adventure combined into a petite read. I would give this story a 3/5.
Psyche is a very beautiful girl who is more beautiful than Aphrodite. Even though Psyche is gorgeous she is not picked or put in an arranged marriage because no man has asked for her hand. Her father goes to summon the gods and figure out who she is to marry and comes back with bad news. He tells her that she is to marry an immortal and her sisters think right away that she is going to marry a monster. Psyche has to go to the top of mountain at midnight and wait for her husband's arrival. She does so and gets swept away by the west wind which carries her to Eros palace (Psyche still doesn’t know who her husband is.) She goes on and gets fed delicious meals all day and then at night is finally joined with her husband but she can not see him and he doesn't tell her who she is. She trusts him until she insists that her sisters come to the palace. Her sisters convince her that he is seeing another women during the day and that she should sneak a candle into their bedroom and at night light it to see who he is. Psyche does so and learns that her husband is Ero (cupid) and she is surprised but hot wax drips on his shoulder and he wakes to see her breaking their trust. He flies out of the window and she tries to follow him but she tries only to kill herself. She keeps trying to kill herself until Aphrodite offers her a solution. Eros will come back to her if she goes through these multiple stages and completes them. With a little help from animals and the wind she overcomes the tasks and wins Eros back over and they live in love together forever.
Why you should read this story:
This story was by far the most fantasized in the book because it involved mythical creatures and magical wind. I directly do not enjoy reading fantasy because of the vague of realistic happenings. Overall it was a okay story but I didn't ever get into it. I would suggest the author to include some more practical characters and provide a better imagery of the character. I felt like the author had two sentences to describe each character and then jumped into the plot. If I recommended this to a class mate I would first ask them if they were interested in fantasy at all and if they were, awesome but if they could not work with it I would not have them read the story at all. I give this story a 3.5/5.
